Core Camp

Camper with popsicle

Give your child the opportunity to enjoy summer fun in a nurturing educational environment! Camp Montessori’s Core Camp program is led by experienced educators who are dedicated to supporting the growth of each child.

Not only do our campers play - they also form enduring friendships, explore ideas, learn new skills, make choices and work together. Our spacious indoor facilities are air-conditioned (including a full gymnasium) and our 25-acre campus includes multiple playgrounds, woods, nature trails and a stream.

The camp staff works together to provide a lively and interesting program in which their joy and enthusiasm about learning and living inspires and engages campers of all ages.

Older children (ages 8 and up) may participate in Core Camp AND Specialty Camp programs during the same week.  If your child is already registered for a half-day specialty program during a particular week but needs full-day care, make sure you register for the appropriate part-day Core Camp for that week as well.

Age Group and Schedule Information

In order to give campers the personal attention they deserve, children at Camp Montessori are divided into groups based on their age or the grade they will enter for the 2017-18 school year.

Camp Age Group Names:
  • Turtles (Toddlers): Ages 12-40 months
  • Pandas (Preschoolers): 40 months to 5 years, NOT going into kindergarten in the fall
  • Kangaroos: Entering kindergarten in the fall, or first-graders who would do better in a smaller group setting
  • Tigers: Entering 1st or 2nd grade
  • Meerkats: Entering 3rd or 4th grade
  • Dragons: Entering 5th through 8th grade
Scheduling information:
  • Campers may register for a five- or three-day program. A full camp day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Half-day camps begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. Extended Day Camp options cover the full day through 6 p.m. New this year: Parents may drop off campers as early as 7 a.m. at no additional charge!
  • Children may be registered for one week or for up to 10 weeks. Weeks need not be consecutive, and registration may occur at any time if space is available.
  • Toddlers must register for at least two consecutive weeks.
  • Preschool, elementary and middle school-aged traditional campers may attend any three days, as long as those days are determined at registration.
  • The toddler three-day option is offered Tuesday through Thursday only.

Core Camp Activities

At Camp Montessori, each day includes a balance of group projects/games and times when children can make their own choice of activity. Each week’s theme includes a component of learning/inquiry — we think and play!

Camp Montessori offers a relaxed but civilized setting in which children can grow cognitively, emotionally and socially. Each week’s program is designed to work equally well as a stand-alone experience or as part of a summer-long adventure.

We welcome the addition of children who do not attend Wilmington Montessori’s school-year program, as this adds to the richness of our community and to the diversity of the peer group.
