Curriculum

Wilmington Montessori School's program is ungraded with an open-ended curriculum that allows students to progress at their own pace. The curriculum follows the child rather than the child fitting into a set curriculum where all are expected to do the same work at the same time. The curriculum offers children freedom of choice in a dynamic, energized and free-flowing classroom where learning is hands-on.

Multi-Age Classrooms
Montessori classrooms provide a rich, natural environment for learning. The youngest children learn by watching the older children and the oldest children demonstrate true understanding of a concept when they can explain it to a younger child. Children learn not only to collaborate and work together but to strive for their personal best in a non-competitive atmosphere. These values serve them well throughout their lives.

Educating the Whole Child

Wilmington Montessori School nourishes the full development of the individual, giving students the tools and nurturing resiliency to respond to an ever-changing world. The social curriculum emphasizes the concepts of grace and courtesy throughout the program levels. The teacher prepares the environment, gives lessons and serves as a facilitator to aid in the process of "learning how to learn."
